State Senator Julie Lassa presents "Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin" at 2007 event. |
Come join this annual
"Ag Tour" sponsored by the Agri-Business Committee of
the Portage County Business Council. This event celebrates the agri-business
industry in Central Wisconsin. The tours of local agri-businesses
are open to anyone interested in learning more about the success
of our area's agri-business industry. The event includes lunch,
business, tours and transportation to tour sites. |
Ag Tour 2008 will begin at noon at Wisconsin Public Service
Corporation in Plover with a picnic lunch. Guest speakers from Jay-Mar, Inc. will present information on "future costs of crop inputs and how this will affect food pricing".
After the picnic lunch, a tour of
Golden County Foods, Inc. is scheduled. Golden County Foods prepares potato, vegetable and other foods for retail, food service and private label. Their customers include some of the largest and most sophisticated food companies and brand names in North America and Europe. Founded in 1991, Golden County Foods is recognized as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in Wisconsin with over 400 employees. Participants will tour their second production facility (the Moore Road facility). The tour is sure to be interesting.
The tour continues to the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Storage Research Facility located on the Hancock Agricultural Research Station. Conceived, designed and built by the growers of the state, the Facility was gifted to the University of Wisconsin in 2007 and represents the most technologically advanced research complex of its type in the world. Ag Tour 2008 is open to anyone interested in learning more about local agribusiness. Sign up today! (Casual attire, no sandals) This event is sponsored in part by Roberts Irrigation Company, Inc.
